Glassmaker Clayton Glass falls into administration after high energy costs
Glass manufacturer Clayton Glass entered administration on 18 September following persistently high energy and raw material costs and weak demand. Interpath, appointed as administrator, immediately sold the company to Clayton Glass Group Limited, backed by the former management team.
The sale preserves 283 jobs at sites in Nottingham, Swindon, Canterbury and Dewsbury. However, 290 jobs were lost due to the closure of sites in County Durham, North Lanarkshire and Blackburn.
Clayton Glass, founded in 1956, had previously announced an increase in its raw material surcharge due to rising energy and material costs.
