InsolvencyIndex publishes public information about corporate insolvencies in the United Kingdom. This page explains what personal data we use for that and to run the website.

Who we are

Binq Media B.V., Mart Smeetslaan 1, 1217 ZE Hilversum, the Netherlands (Dutch company number 54506158) is the controller. You can reach us at info@insolvencyindex.co.uk.

Insolvency data

We only cover companies; we do not publish personal insolvencies such as bankruptcy orders. Our data comes from several public sources, mainly The Gazette and Companies House. Personal data in it is limited to the names of insolvency practitioners and, from Companies House, the names, roles and year of birth of company officers, which we only show to signed-in users.

We do this because suppliers, creditors and others need to be able to check whether a counterparty is in an insolvency procedure. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests, ours and theirs (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR). We do not sell the data as a file.

Account, alerts and newsletter

If you create an account, we use your email address and password (stored encrypted) to let you sign in. If you sign in with Google, Google gives us your name and email address. We store which companies you follow so we can send you alerts. This is necessary to provide the service (Article 6(1)(b) UK GDPR).

We only send the newsletter with your consent. You can unsubscribe at the bottom of every email. We measure clicks on links in our emails and keep track of addresses that cannot be delivered.

We keep your account until you delete it, or until 2 years after your last sign-in.

Visiting the website

We use Google Analytics and show advertising through Google and other advertising partners, only to the extent that you consent in the cookie notice. See our cookie page.

When a technical error occurs, we store your IP address, among other details, to fix the problem. We delete this data after 7 days.

Who receives your data

We do not sell personal data. We do use service providers: hosting and databases (our own server at Hetzner in Frankfurt, Germany), email delivery, Google for statistics, advertising and sign-in, and the advertising partners listed in the cookie notice. Your data is processed in the EU, which the UK recognises as providing adequate protection. Google may process data in the United States under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Your rights

You can ask to access or correct your data, delete your account, ask for your data to be erased or its use restricted, and object to its use. We weigh any objection against the interest in publication and only remove information if your reasons outweigh it. Email info@insolvencyindex.co.uk; we reply within one month. The official notice in The Gazette remains in any case.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
