Construction recorded 3,866 company insolvencies in the 12 months to August 2026, the highest total of any major UK sector, Insolvency Service figures show. The number was down 2% year on year, the smallest fall among larger industries.
Richardson Lissack partner Alex Rogan said falling new orders, weak private housing and commercial demand, and reliance on unfinished work valuations make solvency hard to assess, risking directors missing warning signs.
