Liberty Steel Newport placed into creditors' voluntary liquidation

By: InsolvencyIndex23 Oct 2026
Liberty Steel Newport Limited, which runs the Welsh steelworks bought by Sanjeev Gupta in 2013, entered creditors' voluntary liquidation on 13 October. Begbies Traynor and Kroll representatives have been appointed joint liquidators, according to an official notice.

Latest status: Liberty Steel Newport Limited – Winding-up petition (12 Oct 2026)

The move followed a winding-up petition presented on 16 September by Siemens Financial Services Limited. Greensill Capital, itself in administration since 2021, is reported to be a major creditor. The Newport site employs 180 people. Creditors have until 19 November to submit claims to the joint liquidators.

The separate entity Liberty Steel Property Newport is not covered by the liquidation, and its status is unclear.
