Hospitality insolvencies drop 24% in August amid summer trading boost

Hospitality insolvencies fell to 233 in August, down 24% on July's 306 and 12% on August 2025, according to Insolvency Service figures. Advisers credited hot weather and the men's football World Cup with lifting trade.

RSM UK's Saxon Moseley said the improved mood had helped cut insolvencies but warned recovery remained fragile amid geopolitical uncertainty, possible interest rate rises and policy changes. Colleague Gordon Thomson said historical debt could still undermine viable businesses, urging firms to seek restructuring advice ahead of a tougher autumn.

The sector recorded 3,201 insolvencies in the 12 months to August, the third-highest of any industry.
