Construction sector leads UK insolvency table with 3,866 failures
Construction remained the worst-affected industry for company insolvencies in England and Wales, with 3,866 firms entering insolvency in the 12 months to August 2026. This was down 2% year-on-year but still 17% of all recorded cases.
August alone saw 294 construction insolvencies, up slightly from 292 a year earlier. Specialist contractors made up 164 of these, down from 179, RSM UK figures show.
RSM's Kelly Boorman cited weak housing demand and financing uncertainty; the Insolvency Service says the dip does not confirm a sustained recovery.
