UK corporate insolvencies hit four-month high in August

Corporate insolvencies in England and Wales rose to 1,946 in August, up 0.6 per cent on July, according to Azets restructuring partner Chris Tate. He pointed to a jump in administrations and compulsory liquidations.

Tate said over 250 connected real estate companies entered administration between March and August, while creditors and HMRC pursued debts through compulsory liquidations. Rising costs and weak consumer spending hit trading, with brands including TG Jones and Beefeater cutting sites.

He also flagged strain on higher-end retailers and construction firms, where thin margins and rising costs were pushing companies closer to financial distress.
