British hotel owner fears bankruptcy over long-term A449 road closure

The road at British Camp has been closed since September 2025 due to a collapsed retaining wall and a new ground subsidence. There is no concrete repair date. The closure has already cost more than £2.2 million, excluding the new damage. Rumours suggest closure until 2029 and additional government funding.

The hotel owner says he is working unpaid and getting no response from the councils. An additional road closure elsewhere is worsening the situation for businesses in the region. The county council says it will speak with him and is working on a recovery plan.
