Fewer new businesses in Wales, insolvencies also decline
The number of new business registrations in Wales fell by 15% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, according to a report by industry body R3. At the same time, the number of insolvency-related proceedings decreased.
There were 4,922 new businesses registered, compared with 191 insolvency cases (-22% year-on-year). R3 attributes the reluctance to economic uncertainty, despite easing pressure on businesses.
Nationally, registrations fell by 6% to 184,873; insolvencies decreased by 6% to 6,854 cases.
