No bankruptcy for Jamie Carragher after tax debt
Football pundit and former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher has not been declared bankrupt after Britain's tax authority filed a bankruptcy petition against him over an unpaid tax bill. The case, brought before the High Court, has now been resolved.
The sum reportedly involved was between £700,000 and £800,000. A spokesperson for Carragher said the matter should have been dealt with earlier, but that the necessary steps have now been taken and the case will not be pursued further.
Britain's tax authority, HMRC, said it could not comment on individual cases, but stressed that it only files a bankruptcy petition as a last resort.
