British family in Whitefield fights bankruptcy over looming loss of home
A mother from Whitefield near Manchester has spent over two years fighting the consequences of a bankruptcy order stemming from a business financing dispute. She fears losing her home and is calling for reform of the British bankruptcy system.
Rosie Kahrani signed as guarantor for a financing agreement for her partner's company in 2022. According to the family, this involved a debt of around £24,000, after which more than £37,000 was paid to the creditor and trustees. She was declared bankrupt in her absence after missing the hearing due to an accident.
The trustees claim Kahrani holds a 50 percent stake in the house, which is legally disputed. The family started a petition for greater transparency and proportionality in bankruptcy proceedings and is awaiting a new hearing to have the bankruptcy declared void.
