British suicide prevention charity Papyrus goes bust, family affected
The British suicide prevention organisation Papyrus has ceased its activities and has been taken over by administrators from Opus Restructuring & Insolvency. The charity, active for nearly thirty years with a 24-hour helpline, was supported in part by the family of the late 15-year-old Will Pedley.
The Pedley family had raised over £103,000 for Papyrus since their son's death and reacted with shock to the collapse. They are calling for support to be given instead to CancerCare, a bereavement support organisation in North Lancashire and South Cumbria, which had assisted them at the time.
A planned fundraising event in memory of Will, a tractor pull event, will still go ahead, but the proceeds will now go to CancerCare instead of Papyrus.
